On Sunday 17 March we’re holding a fundraising charity auction to enable members of the community to bid on their own piece of Horton Chapel history.
The design for the refurbishment of the chapel includes the re-use of many of the chapel’s original artefacts – including, of course, all of the items that are part of the Grade II listing. However, there are some items that will not be used – and we would like to give local people the opportunity to own them.
These items include some of the chapel’s pews, tables, cupboards, kneeler cushions, a selection of prayer and hymn books, and other ephemera including two damaged pianos.
The chapel will open at 10am on Sunday 17 March, when visitors who have registered will have the opportunity to examine items and place sealed bids for them by filling in a simple form. When bids are opened, the highest amount offered for each item will win, with all proceeds going back into the refurbishment project.
Bids for smaller items will be accepted until 11am. and the winning bidder can taken away the items straight away.
Bids for larger items will be accepted until 12.30. There is no need to stay on the premises once you have made a large item bid. Winners will be contacted and should arrange collection of larger items the following week, on Sunday 24 March.

There is no parking on-site, no toilet facilities and the uneven ground makes it unsuitable for wheelchair users. Children will not be admitted on this occasion.
